This book sheds light on the feelings and emotions of children who grew up in the aftermath of World War 2. I'm very touched with all the details of growing up in NYC while under the shadow of parents who lost everything to the Nazis. Joe Berger recalls so many details from his life, such as the songs that his first grade teacher sang, to make it look like he had the most interesting life, when in reality it was filled with deprivations, low level poverty. I recommend this book to anyone who ever had a childhood, ever had to grapple with growing up and of course, anyone who is interested in the unique history of the Jews of NY.
