Abstract:
Journal (1852-1854) contains rewritten entries from the original journal, including the lacking portions up to Sept. 25, 1852, and a summary of events up to his departure from California and arrival in New York in Dec. 1854. Comments on Placerville and Sacramento, his gold mining operations, his visit to the redwoods in Calaveras Co., encounters with Negroes and with Indians, etc. [120 p.] With these: photocopy of annotated maps tracing Anable's overland journey; clipping of his newspaper article (June 20, 1854) describing the "Big Trees;" biographical information on Anable from his grandson; and a photocopy of a paper, prepared for the Placer County Historical Society, on the town of Gold Hill and the Anable Mine.
