Fine amateur illumination

Mrs Hartley's illuminated edition of The May Queen, coming out in the same year as EVB's more well-known one, has been overshadowed by it but remains an interesting example of mid-19th century illumination, in a style reminiscent of Victorian religious motto cards.  Mrs Hartley is not listed...
